Hi my name is Patty and I started making and decorating cakes about 7 years ago. My cake journey started with my cousin's wedding. They were coming from Canada to get married here in Florida. My Aunt asked me to bake their wedding cake. I was always a good baker, but didn't know anything about cake decorating. I called in the help of a friend of mine who worked at a local bakery. She came and decorated my baked cakes. As she was decorating I thought I could do that and a week after the wedding I took my first Wilton class at the local craft store. After the first class came the second and third and I was hooked. My next dilema was to come up with a really good cake and icing recipe. There's no sense decorating a pretty cake, if it tastes bad, right.
After I perfected my recipe box, I started making cakes for my family and friends and before I knew it I had more cakes to make than anything else. I was having a great time, but starting to get a bit burned out. So much to my dismay I threw in my piping bag and quit my beloved hobby. I had a list of justifications why I shouldn't be decorating cakes, but I still felt sad that I was giving up something I once enjoyed, because it just wasn't fun anymore.
Well up to the present time. I work with a man who was getting married. I told him I would be happy to make his wedding cake. The day I started planning his cake I just knew I was hooked again. So I decided that I would return to the sugar world.
I believe that every cake should be special and no two should be alike. I take alot of time to properly plan and prepare each cake. I take great pride in my baking and decorating and give every cake that I make 110%.
I aspire someday to have my own cake shop and do nothing but bake and decorate huge elaborate fancy cakes each and every day; however, until then I'll just enjoy my hobby one cake at a time.
